Dream Match Denied: WWE's Undertaker vs AEW's Sting
The Undertaker is disappointed that his dream match against Sting never happened in the WWE because Vince McMahon, the former boss, didn't support it.
One of the most anticipated matchups that wrestling fans missed out on was a showdown between Sting and the Undertaker. Even though Vince McMahon was in charge, the WWE didn't make it happen. It's hard to believe that these two legendary wrestlers would never face off, especially since the Undertaker is now retired, and Sting recently ended his wrestling career in AEW. During McMahon's tenure, there was a real opportunity for the match to happen, but the Undertaker explained why it fell through.
Undertaker Blames Vince McMahon
The Undertaker, now retired and known for his incredible 21-0 streak at WrestleMania, was closely associated with the WWE's biggest event. On his podcast, "Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway," he revealed why the match never took place during Sting's brief time with the WWE and why McMahon didn't push for it.
"That match would've been a massive draw. Unfortunately, it just didn't come together. Sting had a short stint in the WWE, and Vince wasn't interested. I'm not sure why. Everyone else wanted to see this match for years. People were already sending me fan art with posters and billboards within a year or two of Sting's arrival. But it just never materialized," explained the Undertaker.
The Missed Opportunity
"The match could've been great, but I don't think it would've met people's expectations. Fans were thinking about a clash between the Undertaker and Sting from the mid-2000s, but by the time Sting arrived, it was too late. I was already past my prime when he got here," he added.
At WrestleMania 36, the Undertaker had his final match against AJ Styles in a Boneyard match, while Sting teamed up with Darby Allin in a tag match for the Tag Team titles against The Young Bucks. Both matches ended in spectacular fashion, leaving fans cheering as these superstar wrestlers bid farewell to the ring.
